Do you own assets and your own home or other immovable property? Then investing in solar panels on your home or real estate may be a good alternative to the very low return on capital in general.
A number of facilities apply to the purchase of solar panels. One of these is the netting arrangement whereby the price of electricity supplied back by the solar panels is equal to the price of the electricity purchased by you. The intention was announced in the Spring Memorandum that this scheme would continue to exist in its current form until 1 January 2025 and then gradually phase it out until 2031. The bill for this still has to be adopted by the House of Representatives and the Senate.
In addition, there are other benefits such as the reduction of the energy bill and the VAT that you can reclaim from the tax authorities. This means that the return on solar panels will be higher than the return on power in general.
Keep in mind that an intention has also been announced to introduce a zero VAT rate on solar panels on or in the immediate vicinity of homes from 1 January 2023.
