In 15 years in the Netherlands, the number doubled to 94,520.
The number of holding companies in the Netherlands is growing rapidly. Figures from BoldData show that 12,695 new holding companies were registered with the Chamber of Commerce last year. That is a growth of sixteen percent. This brings the number of active holding companies to 94,520 (last year 80,735). Eleven of these holdings are owned by a foreign organization.
This huge increase, according to Daan Wolff of BoldData, has to do with the higher tax burden for entrepreneurs: "Companies are making more and more profit and corporate tax is going up sharply due to the reduction of the bracket limit in 2023. Entrepreneurs are anticipating this rule by registering a personal holding company with the Chamber of Commerce and hope to reduce the profit tax burden." The holding company has been gaining popularity for some time. The number of holding companies has doubled in 15 years. From 43,720 in 2007 to 94,520 this year.
The number of foreign holding companies is completely on the rise. In 2015, there were 2,295 foreign-owned holding companies. By 2023, there will be 10,638. An increase of 363 percent. American companies lead the list with 2,040 holdings in the Netherlands. Tax haven Cyprus rose the hardest over the past 15 years with 767 percent growth.
